Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA) and Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR)

Environmental reporting is key for businesses seeking Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs) or registration under the Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR), promoting transparency and accountability in environmental practices. Businesses that have the potential to release pollutants or contaminants into the environment are required to obtain an ECA from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). This approval, formerly known as a Certificate of Approval (CofA), ensures that emissions and discharges meet provincial environmental standards.

Even small businesses may need an ECA if their operations involve chemicals or generate particulates. In such cases, an Emission Summary and Dispersion Modelling (ESDM) report is typically required to identify and assess all onsite emission sources. If a facility cannot meet the general air quality standards, it must apply for a site-specific or technical standard approval.

Low-risk facilities or equipment (e.g., natural gas-fired units) may instead qualify for registration under the EASR, as outlined in O. Reg. 1/17. Unlike ECAs, EASR registrations can be approved instantly when reviewed and sealed by a Licensed Engineering Practitioner (LEP). Our team additionally assists with obtaining Renewable Energy Approvals (REA) and Permits to Take Water (PTTW), supporting clients through technical assessments, application preparation, and regulatory coordination to facilitate environmentally responsible and compliant project development.

Our team can help your business determine the right type of approval, prepare the necessary documentation, and guide you through every step of the process to ensure full compliance and timely approvals.

Environmental Management & Reporting

Depending on your operations and location, your facility may need to complete different annual environmental reports required by municipal, provincial, or federal authorities.

Effective environmental management and reporting are essential for maintaining compliance and demonstrating corporate responsibility. Organizations are required to report pollutant releases, waste transfers, and air emissions under the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI), ensuring transparency and accountability in environmental performance. Our team assists clients in collecting, validating, and submitting accurate data to meet regulatory deadlines and requirements.

Beyond reporting, we provide regulatory consultation and environmental review services to help businesses navigate evolving environmental legislation, permitting obligations, and operational impacts. We also support ambient air quality monitoring programs, ensuring that emissions are managed within acceptable limits and that air quality objectives are consistently achieved.

Through our integrated approach, we help clients improve environmental performance, minimize risks, and maintain compliance with federal and provincial regulations.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Audits

We help businesses navigate and meet their Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) reporting and compliance obligations across municipal, provincial, and federal levels, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and sustainable operations

Maintaining a safe and compliant workplace requires proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) management. Our team provides comprehensive EHS audit program development and improvement services to help organizations identify gaps, evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements, and enhance overall safety culture.

We assist with management systems implementation, including ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ensuring a structured approach to risk management, continuous improvement, and regulatory alignment.

Through environmental and occupational risk assessments, we help organizations identify potential hazards, evaluate exposure risks, and develop effective control measures to prevent incidents and ensure worker safety.

Our approach supports compliance and drives operational excellence and sustainability performance.
